Disable computers during lunch?

Hi,

 

Is there a built in way to disable computers automatically, pupils are being left unattended during their lunch breaks so we have had approval to lock workstations during lunch.

 

We have tried disabling the computer account from the server but this does not log out the user.

 

Any ideas?

You can of course set time(s) for a group of users ever since Server 2000, but this alone won't automatically log out existing logged in users.

 

You also need to enable: Computer Config > Policies > Windows Settings > Security Settings > Local Policies > Security Options - Network security: Force logoff when logon hours expire - Enabled

That solves prevent new logins.

Why not just approval to lock the door and staff disciplined if they break the rules?

Because they don't see anything wrong with leaving the doors open even when they loop network cables etc. thats the deputy head as well.

 

Trust me, last time stuff happened I talked to him and basically got told that they will do what they like.

 

Just tried

 

Shutdown /f /m \\ computer

 

But just get a list of commands plus loads of other stuff underneath.

Are you restricting complete access or to certain applications like IE.

You could use logon restriction for the user accounts so they can't logon during x period.

Got that bit sorted now, just trying to shutdown the machines now with a timer and the shutdown command.

 

The above doesn't log existing users out.

 

Would like to block the entire machine.

Have had a similar situation at one of my sites. Forcing logoffs and locking out computers just ended up with more damage to equipment in the rooms. Better to go round and lock the rooms yourself or get a change in policy.

Parents get charged with price of a replacment machine, as these machines are now 6 years they are welcome to break an dbuy us some new one .

No chance in getting things changed with this guy.

 

Cant seem to get the shutdown to work.

 

Have added into the gpo user rights ability to remote shutdown and shutdown using the shutdown command but i still get the help file and reasons why this computer has been shutdown.

NO REBOOT

REBOOT and FORCE NOW

shutdown -r -m \\classpc1 /f -t 00

 

/f = force -t = time 00 = 0 secs
