I disabled both firewall and they're able to ping each other expect join the domain. Am I missing something? Yes, it should but the *.7 is the currently host the DHCP but don't want to set the client as static to test it (Do I have to do it anyway?)
mjs_mjs Posted December 13, 2012 Posted December 13, 2012 well if the client doesn't point to a DNS linked to the AD (an in a domain controller running DNS) then when the client looks for the domain it wont find it, as the other DNS may not have the domain controler listed in it's DNS database. - give it a go, pointing to the DC and see what happens. in the DHPC config on the DC, you can set the DNS servers it sends out.
James_C Posted December 13, 2012 Posted December 13, 2012 I think that mjs_mjs is on the right track. To at least start your fault finding process. You said they can ping - did you ping to IP or did you ping to server name? At command prompt you could do an NSLOOKUP for the server name and domain name and see if they resolve. Let us know how you get on.
macsit Posted December 18, 2012 Author Posted December 18, 2012 Actually I just shut down the main server (The one with *.7) due to the password I forgot. (I put it in the workbook and somehow it won't let me log in so I gave up even tried with linux based boot up password reset the local admin but I think it won't reset the domain, right?) I enabled the DHCP in the router into different range for now. The next step I'm going to change the static ip *.8 to *.7 and do few more things. (Such as testing the one of client with GPO with newer features.) Any more inputs I would love to hear from you.

twin--turbo Posted December 18, 2012 Posted December 18, 2012 you either have to have client dns as the dc , or join the domain using the IP of the DC. the former is prefered. without either there is no way for the client to know what or where the domain is. TT

I tend to rename 'em using newsid on each re-image but this doesn't make sense when I don't see the two same names on DHCP list. Is there other way to find out to fix this problem?

Get2theChoppa Posted December 19, 2012 Posted December 19, 2012 I tend to assign a static ip to the CLEINT PC NIC within the ip range of the DC, then add PC to DOMAIN after that you can remove that static ip from the NIC, this is a work around, but works for me
