LukeC Posted July 5, 2007 Posted July 5, 2007 Can anybody recomend a good wireless router which is easy to setup for the internet and to share files. I have one desktop (xp) and a laptop which is xp and uses a 3com wireless card. My services provider is orange and can recieve upto 8mbps
ConTheITGuy Posted July 5, 2007 Posted July 5, 2007 Netgear are very popular. BTW: Hi Andy PS. Thought you had wireless at home.
LukeC Posted July 5, 2007 Author Posted July 5, 2007 i have an orange livebox but it seems to be useless it wont allow 3rdparty devices to connect only oranage ones spent hours tryin to work it and it will allow file sharing either. So im lookin for a better device than the livebox nothing but trouble!
localzuk Posted July 5, 2007 Posted July 5, 2007 I have an orange livebox and it worked flawlessly with an imac, an intel based mini-pci wireless card in my work laptop, via a dlink dwl122 usb dongle and via a netgear 54mbps usb dongle. However, if you want a decent wireless router get yourself a WRT54GL as you can do whatever you want with it then...
plexer Posted July 5, 2007 Posted July 5, 2007 What is your current connection to the internet? adsl model, router? How is your computer currently set up for internet access. Do you need a wireless device with built in adsl modem or how about a wireless access point and a seperate adsl modem? Ben
LukeC Posted July 5, 2007 Author Posted July 5, 2007 curent connection is via a livebox router provided by my ISP orange and it connects at 2MBPS but isnt any good at wireless conenctions
plexer Posted July 5, 2007 Posted July 5, 2007 So could you just use a wireless router plugged into the ethernet port on your livebox? Such as a buffalo WLA-G54? Ben
gwendes Posted July 5, 2007 Posted July 5, 2007 something supporting OpenWRT... the 54G is a nice router
plexer Posted July 5, 2007 Posted July 5, 2007 WLA-G54 can be flashed with openwrt I believe plus I have several going cheap Ben
