Spiceworks questions

I'm looking at using spiceworks to monitor the network. can I ask a few questions:

 

1, is it secure?

2, is it worth using

3, any other thoughts

We currently use spiceworks, we have found the helpdesk function to be quite good as it means we can log all the jobs we are doing, get user made tickets from staff who need help and also track 3rd party repairs all in one system. It is set-up to email us when there is a new ticket on the system which means its abit easier to let manage. We also have it monitor all the ink levels in the printers which can come in handy aswell as tracking what AV we have installed on units (i.e make and version no) so you can see everything from a quick glance. We do seem to get alot of errors across the network that arnt 100% true however, such as errors advising a router is down when it is working fine.

Thanks for the reply, I was actually looking for a network bandwidth type of software which I could use to benchmark and monitor the network usage. For example: on a Monday morning measure the network usage and then in a weeks time measure it again and see if I get any major usage increase. Do you know of any free s\w I can try out?

 

I may have a look at the helpdesk functionality though.

Cacti or Nagios (quick google search or browse on here) will give you the option to monitor bandwidth on your network, not sure if Spiceworks offers this feature.

 

A little setting up will be required to get either of the above working as they wont just work out of the box.

Have a look at Zenoss it has a feature to see what bandwidth devices are using.
