3 schools that I have connections to are considering joining forces for their internet etc provisioning. They all use the LEA at the moment which includes filtering (and presumably a firewall) and have been offered much the same but want other options. The internet past is being looked at by people above my pay grade, but I've been asked to investigate the filtering side of things.

 

Whatever solution we use needs to be up and running by April and be fairly simple to switch to/install/run (as I have a sneaking suspicion that the available time will be VERY short). The 3 sites are totally separate and not physically connected by copper or fibre (so I guess that this means a separate box at each site?) and have 300-400 potential users each (I suspect this tops out at around 100 on the net at a time). As ever, cost is an issue - though there is actually some budget available.

 

So - what would you guys use, and what sort of costs are we talking (assuming buying a box as I doubt there's anything usable on site) for hardware and annual subs? Is there anything else I should have thought of?

Agreed even with the support niggles mentioned on here of late which I know they are addressing but as has been said it takes time to train staff as they are highly trained as has been very much applauded on here so well worth going with.
