Hi everyone,

I have set up a temporary Remote Desktop server to allow certain users to access the school desktop environment from home. Everything seems to be going well except the 'Administrative Tools' program group is showing in the Start Menu when they login via Remote Desktop Services. Is there an easy way to remove this from their Start Menu?

Many thanks.

The rdp shouldn't make a difference the gpo limiting their access should still apply to them as long as their in the proper organizational units.

I came across this problem when setting up our Remote Desktop farm. What you need to do is set up a new GPO with the GPO Mode set to merge. Under the User Config, Preferences, Start Menu - remove the check box for Admin Tools, and make any other changes you need.

If you're running Server 08 R2 go to GP. Create or edit your lockdown policy and go to User Prefs>Windows>Start Menu> Right click>New. Select the options you want but change "Administritive tools" to do not display, and apply.

Damn, beaten to it! :)

  • Thanks 1
