Best forum software to use?

Hi All,

 

I need what I thought was quite a simple forum. The main features needed are:

 

Forums and sub-forums made private based on user groups

Calendar that users can add to

configurable attachments to allow large attachments but block exe's etc.

 

optional- only allow registration from a list of email domains

 

I've started with PHPBB3 and while I've found the things that I want, the calendar in particular is proving difficult to get working.

Yes it is for school. A collaborative group of schools specifically. They currently use fronter but don't likeit and there's a lot of admin overhead for what should be a very simple task.

I run several different collaborative forums for non-profit school based groups using some software I wrote myself, mainly SBM's and Governors. I think it can do all the things you are asking for, although it does depend on what you mean by large attachments.

 

I can probably offer this as a managed service to you for a minimal cost to cover my hosting / bandwidth costs etc. It does support adding sponsors which may be of interest to help you cover any costs (many of the groups I support now make four and five digit profits out of using the service)
