Wireless enabled photocopier

Might be in the wrong forum - buts it urgent!

 

We are finally getting a networked photocopier, but have no network sockets nearby, would a wireless connection be up to the job of loads and loads and loads of printing?

Are you going to setup an AP as a client? anyhow I don't know about loads and loads but for regular printing it'll be fine. It depends if anyone likes sending 500Mb PDFs..

I'm fairly sure the Ricoh Copiers can have a module put in that supports wireless.

All depends on how much you are printing. I think speed wise yes 54mbs should be fine (will only suffer if you get very large print jobs but will only be a little bit longer in theory). Its whether the copiers card can keep a constant decent connection to your AP - how far away is it?

 

the ricoh ones come with external atenna buy the looks of it. Although the additional cost of the wireless card of x years (if leasing) it might be cheaper to pay £100 for a cabler to come out do put a socket in.

Depends how mass and what's being printed, photographs will take ages, and, they're the best things to send to a colour photocopier, as you only pay per page in general.

 

If they put a power socket in they can put a network socket in, the one off cost is way less than the time wasted by expensive to hire per hour teachers.

Prolly easier to run a network cable ( one ) or put a data point for the copier in ? I was about to say the Ricoh copiers generally tend to come with a USB Port but that wouldn't be much use unless there was a pc that was near enough it to act as a print server ( effectively sharing the printer from the one pc )

or a 3rd opttion an ethernet over power adapter just use the mains wiring. Should be better than wifi as long as the real netwoork port relsewhere is on the same ringmain

Yes I would prefer a wired network connection - but we're an asbestos school so everything's a million times more difficult!

probably the 3rd option then! Power line adapters and just make sure you buy two incase they die one day!

Depending on your school's wiring, and the availability of a power socket near the switches for the building that your photocopier is in, one of these might do the trick Devolo dLAN 500 AVmini 500Mbps Powerline HomePlug

With these new regulations it's probably cheaper to get rid of all the asbestos at once than have to have another survey done every year, or knock the whole building down
