Theldron Posted November 19, 2012 Posted November 19, 2012 Hi all, We have primary school students come into our school and learn. I have been asked to come up with a way that a member of staff from the primary schools can go on to our website click a link, login using a id and password and then view their students work, attendance data and behaviour data that will be inputted to excel spreadsheets. How would I go about doing this? Would I need to setup a VPN? I know using a Learning Platform would be the best option for this, but this is not an option for the moment. Cheers
pantscat Posted November 19, 2012 Posted November 19, 2012 SharePoint might be an option. You could upload the students' work and the excel spreadsheets to document libraries - maybe one per primary school and then issue AD logons for the staff that need to access them and restrict access to the relevant areas.
cpjitservices Posted November 19, 2012 Posted November 19, 2012 Moodle? We do exactly that but at a college, it's quick and easy to set up - takes but an hour. How come it's not an option at the moment ? You could use a VPN and have shares that people can login to - but you then need to supply whoever needs to login with credentials and a VPN Client.
Theldron Posted November 19, 2012 Author Posted November 19, 2012 Thanks both, too be honest I forgot about Moodle. How do you give access to this externally? Cheers
Theldron Posted November 19, 2012 Author Posted November 19, 2012 Too be honest my first idea was a VPN with shares. Basically they want this up and running by January, I dont mind putting a bit of work into it but I just need the quickest and most cost effective way to do it. Thanks again
cpjitservices Posted November 19, 2012 Posted November 19, 2012 you port forward to the server hosting Moodle to a domain name.

Thanks again Dont get me wrong, a VPN with shares would work - but i think in the long run it would create more work. At least with Moodle you can build it, get web access working externally (no clients needed) and sort out the authentication with AD and viola.. Students can put things on there for others to see who have the correct permissions to do so.
Chris_ Posted November 19, 2012 Posted November 19, 2012 Home Access Plus+ would do what you need: Home Access Plus+ - Home
Theldron Posted November 20, 2012 Author Posted November 20, 2012 Hi, Thanks for the recommendation of HAP Chris_ I am currently installing it to have a play. The only thing is I am probably doing something really stupid that when I go to the setup page I am not seeing the green ticks and red crosses I am just getting a white box with a little red cross in the corner, like when it can't find a picture. Any help on this would be great. Cheers
Chris_ Posted November 20, 2012 Posted November 20, 2012 You might get a better response if you post in the HAP forum with the specific details and problems you are having. Home Access Plus+
SchoolsBroadband Posted November 20, 2012 Posted November 20, 2012 An SSL VPN will do the trick with mapped drives
Theldron Posted November 26, 2012 Author Posted November 26, 2012 Hi all, I have installed HAP and it is working well, but how do I allow external access to the server? Cheers
