Pupils PDA controlling Promethean Board

Recommended Posts

Hi, I'm new to all this but I'm hoping you guys can help me.

We have reports from a teacher today that a pupils PDA (psion I think) is controlling the whiteboard cursor. We haven't had any joy from promethean yet.

Anybody else come up against this.

Any solutions.

Never heard of this anywhere else but I have done similar with my mobile phone where I could control the cursor through bluetooth.

Is the computer Wifi enabled or bluetooth?

If they are controling through Wifi then it must be some kind of remote desktop program which I would hope was wrong as that would mean they had cetain passwords etc. I cant be MS own remote desktop because when someone connects the computer would get locked. Do you got vnc running on that PC?

VNC is the most obvious candidate. I've checked up on other computers and remotely controlled them from my PDA on a number of occasions (mainly at home and a couple of times at work). EXTREMELY simple to do and even with the small PDA screen it's suprisingly convenient.

I recommend changing your vnc password to something obscure and alphanumeric and maybe disabling rdp on workstations (unless you really need it though if your using vnc I shouldn't see why).

Also it may be worth checking the promethean website to check that they don't have any remote control software for the their whiteboards (as I have heard people request this feature before).
