does thin clients work on non-server platform?

Hi, I would like to check if thin clients can work on a non-server platform?

 

for Instance if i want to share a laptop with another person using thin clients, does it work?

 

What about a cpu which is not a server but has op system like 7/ xp / 8. Can i use thin clients to share it with another user?

I don't think you understand the thin client technology, and I don't understand what you are trying to acomplish here. Thin clients are small piece of hardware with a small foot print OS (Linux, Windows Embded). Are used to connect to a private VM somhere in a datacenter, they can't be use like a normal PC.

There is thin client technology about that does this, though there are licensing costs due to multiple connections on one computer that probably has 1 server CAL etc.

 

If the setup is permanent and you don't have a Terminal Server , then look at Multipoint Servers.

I think he may mean is there any other platform apart from windows server OSes which can deliver a terminal service session?

You can do this with the TCs I've used, using the built in RDP client. Problem is, desktop Windows OSs only allow one concurrent user (without modification) so you can't 'share' a PC this way - either the local user or the TC can connect, not both at once.

On a Windows laptop? Yes, you should be able to connect one RDP session from a thin client to a standard Windows laptop, although no-one else will be able to log in to the laptop so it probably defeats the point of whatever you're trying to do. If you're looking for a cheap way to get a bunch of thin clients working then try LTSP:
