What's a wag?! lol :o

[Perhaps shortened from wag-halter a rogue.] A man full of sport and humor; a ludicrous fellow; a humorist; a wit; a joker.

Wag-halter: One who moves or wears a halter; one likely to be hanged.

my fave is FUBAR!

Another with a similar flavour is SNAFU. I read that some individuals like to daisy-chain such acronyms using SNAFU and FUBAR in the same sentence to describe the same mess/situation.

Correct spelling mistake.

Pet peeve of mine that I will now impart to you all: an abbreviation such as those above is not an acronym unless it's pronounced as a single word.

For example, RAM is an acronym, but CPU is not an acronym (unless you are strange and pronounce it kuh-poo or something). It is instead a different type of abbreviation, called an initialism.

IBM > I Blame Microsoft

When I worked for them I remember an email doing the rounds that had about 20 different definitions on it. Only ones I can remember other than your one were "I'm Being Managed", an allusion to many people having multiple managers, and "I've Been Moved", referring to the frequent re-organisations.

I think it counts as an acronym if it is said as a word even if there is no such word. NAAFI. No Ambition And F****all Interest.

I remember NAAFI SOUP as above with switched off and unplugged!

Along a similar theme:

While answering a question on another forum I was reminded of this thread.

In that answer the subject of Bing [the search engine] being a Backronym came up.

BING: Because It's Not Google or But It's Not Google or BING Is Not Google [recursive backronynm]

Not sure if this is accurate but I think it would be more than a little ironic if Microsoft were to name its new search engine in a manner which includes the name of the major competitor. :)
