RichCowell Posted November 6, 2012 Author Posted November 6, 2012 That's pretty good... the screen we're projecting onto is 5m x 3.75m, so a bit too small really... I have suggested removing the screen and just painting the wall white so if it moves slightly, it won't be quite as noticeable...

That's exactly the kind of thing I was thinking about... however, ours isn't a short-throw projector, and is mounted suspended from the ceiling... so I've given up thinking of something for this... I think Willott's idea of using the tracks is the best so far... I hope that helps others looking though )

This way you could of had a cage mounted around it. If the projector is sustaining hits from balls I doubt the lamp lasting very long, especially if its hot when it takes a hit.

I'll bear that in mind... it'll be switched off when it's happening - it's all external groups using the hall for sports... our kids would never dream of doing anything like that (glad I work where I do! lol), and the lens is changeable, so we may have to look into that...

Depending on the throw distance you'd possibly be needing to upgrade the projector wouldn't you? Wouldn't a long throw lens also come in at £1000+ on its own? I know we were being quoted for a 7000 lumens projector and a long throw lens around £6000 when we were looking at this solution for our main hall (throw distance of 18 metres).

Yes your right, I was meaning it would of been an option to consider originally, if balls games were potentially an issue. Custom lens are generally around the £1000 mark.

Generally teachers don't want the hassle of rolling out wheeled cabinets and then have to start lining up the projector etc. From my experience setups like this get very little use. Adamf0 Posted December 11, 2012 Posted December 11, 2012 Specifically a sports hall is what I was referring to and ours is used on a daily basis, no problems with alignment as the floor is marked where the cabinet needs to be to provide a good image on the screen. I'm sure it is less hassle than what the op is going through trying to get his projector protected

That's pretty much what we needed, with a larger hole on one side to project through, and we'd thought of that, but there was nothing to bolt it on to... there was nothing existing available that we could find to solve it... Virtue's solution is exactly what we were looking for...
