Vanilla laptops and CC4 Network/Licencing

Hello,

 

I'm new to RM & CC4 Network. I'm looking to buy a few more laptops for our school but don't want to buy RM. I'm looking to buy some vanilla Dell laptops and will want to add them to our CC4 network.

 

Could somebody please point me in the right direction on how to do this and will the laptops then be able to use MS office and the anti-virus software etc or will I need to purchase additional licencing etc? I am replacing some old laptops as they're end-of-life so could I use their licencing?

Doenst matter what make they are as long as you have the relevant CC4 licensing.

Sadly, no. If they're RM laptops, they more than likely have OEM licenses, meaning it's tied to the motherboard.

 

You COULD do it, there is nothing physically stopping you. But, if/when RM find out they won't be happy bunnies.

 

 

You need to get RM CC4 licenses.

 

Software wise, everything is licenced for CCX on a per server, per client basis.

Your CC4 licenses would cover the replacement machines, as long as you are not adding more than your replacing. The same would normally be true for your MS Office and AV as long as they were not originally OEM licenses.

Check with your RM account manager, I'm pretty sure ours mentioned (quite a while back) that they are moving away from the per workstation licence and running something similar to EES.

All our CC3\4 licenses were maximum number of computers and not tied to PC X.

 

As @andyturpie said, they were looking to move to a new license model, but last 14 years when I dealt with purchasing licenses from them, the CC ones were for number of devices and either with our without Windows CALS (mute point these days with EES)

 

I know there has been discussion previously regarding their select license scheme, but checking with your account manager is aways a good starting point if your not sure.

Do check and double check though, RM are quite happy to try ripping people off on licensing currently.

Have you considered as an option the RM notebook 310? We got these last year for staff and pupils and they weighed in around the same price as a Tosh equivilent. We have had no issues so far with them.

I'm going to order a few Dell Vostro 2520 as they're currently on offer at £279 each (Haven't been too impressed with RM equipment so far) and then sort out the CC4 licencing if I need it at a later date - I think from initial investigation we have spare CC4 client licenses.
