edie209 Posted October 12, 2012 Posted October 12, 2012 Our school uses Macromedia Fireworks 8, and since our summer upgrade to Windows 7 I have just not been able to deploy it over the network. I can install on a clean machine while I create the MSI and all works great I can open/close the program no problem but as soon as I try to deploy the MSI I am getting nowhere I have tried GPO and SCCM. I have multiply suites to get this installed in so I am starting to panic. Someone here must have deployed this, if have how did you do it? Also what are other school using now? what have you replaced fireworks with.

Then deploy that folder as an msi?
ChrisH Posted October 12, 2012 Posted October 12, 2012 Looking around it looks like with products from the same time such as flash and dream weaver have an MSI that is extracted during the install. You can grab this and use this. You can then define the serial during the install on the MSI command line or you will be able to make an mst for it as well.
3s-gtech Posted October 12, 2012 Posted October 12, 2012 Bit late now with this, but we found no issues at all with Studio 8 if it's included as part of the image, allowing you to pop in the serial etc then grab it. Don't know if that fits with your imaging solution though.

hit Posted October 13, 2012 Posted October 13, 2012 Have a look at the gpo, I'm betting it's detecting the language as Chinese. IIRC you can use ignore language in the gpo and everything will be in English apart from the start menu shortcuts. Not a problem if you redirect start menus to a central share otherwise you can delete and recreate in a startup script.

All the old Suite 8 software put the license files in c:\documents and settings\all users\application data\Macromedia when it was Windows XP. This will have an equivalent in Windows 7 (I'd assume c:\users\all users\AppData\) Install and configure on one machine, then copy that Macromedia folder and put it into a manually crafted MSI. Then just deploy the official MSI and your MSI together. 1

I have noticed that I am getting an error on the install, in that the install does not have the required permissions to write to the c:\ drive this is happening on both the scripted method and if I create an MSI the msi generated error is Description:Product: Fireworks -- Error 1406. Could not write value to key \SYSTEM\WPA\8DEC0AF1-0341-4b93-85CD-72606C2DF94C-5P-1b. System error . Verify that you have sufficient access to that key, or contact your support personnel. Event Xml:
