Some months ago, my ISP announced that they would be upgrading their email servers and users would slowly be migrated. I haven't received any emails this week, not that this is unusual. Today I sent myself an email from work and when I got home it wasn't there. So I contacted my ISP to find out where my email was as there wasn't a bounce message. The support desk told me that I had been migrated to the new server and details of changes that I need to make to my email client had been emailed to me. When I pointed out to them that I think is would have been a good idea to send me an email before they move my email account, their customer support disagreed. Sending me an email after migration was company policy. So I asked them how I could read the email, and was told that I needed to login to the new webmail facility. So I tried this and, of course, my old password didn't work. "That's right, you have to use the new password, which is in the email that we sent." :suicide: I must try something similar myself, next time a student wants their password reset.

It's Demon. They used to be good once but that was a long time ago. I could change but as far as I can tell all ISPs are much the same, ie complete pants.

I used to be with Demon but after a while of perfect uptime the net went down... and again... and again.... in the end I had a more reliable connection after switching back to Sky. I thought a small company (small enough to send me a red Demon mug that I still use to this day!) would excel at customer service, boy was I wrong.

Edit: Good god, I have awoken a thread from 2012. :welcome:

A big welcome back to my thread! I left Demon for some proper Yorkshire broadband, PlusNet. OK, so it's BT in disguise, but there hasn't been any problems, apart from a couple of hours downtime a few months ago. Leaving Demon was a pain. I needed a MAC code from Demon, and they said they wouldn't accept a request for one via email (even though they email you the code). I had to either phone them up or write to them. I chose to write; if I had phoned them I would have ended up swearing at them. I heard nothing back, and a few days later I emailed them. They asked if I could email a copy of the letter I had posted, which I did and they emailed the MAC code. So the will honour an email request for a MAC code, if you push hard enough. Anyway, good riddance to them.

Well... my old network manager did the same over one fateful summer holidays... changed the external connection details to the webmail system... then emailed everyone with the new connection details...got annoyed at the 97 phone calls he got over the course of a week.

The irony was I suggested using a text message service to send the details out! we were going backwards in complexity :D

Are you suggesting if he'd emailed out before changing, it would have made any difference?

We done domain migration this holiday. Emailed all staff and sixth form beforehand with new usernames and passwords. Got to have had 40 calls/emails saying "I know you emailed us beforehand, but I'm an idiot..."

No i'm suggesting a thorough walk through paper guide given to all staff, and taking the phone off the hook forcing them to read the instructions ;)

..what, now?

A PAPER guide?

Given to STAFF?

Oh please - get real. They wouldn't read it if it was the only printed matter on the planet and they were told by the mighty alien overlords that if they didn't read it they would be consumed by the mighty transtpeiorrmeng - feet first
