Apple has now released Apple Configurator 1.2.

 

Release Notes

 

Apple Configurator 1.2 is a recommended update for all Apple Configurator users. This update is available from the Mac App Store, via the Updates tab.

 

What's new in version 1.2?

 

This update improves overall stability and performance, and includes the following:

 

• Support for new iOS 6 features (Lock to App and Global HTTP Proxy) on supervised iOS devices
  
• Support for these new iOS 6 restrictions on a supervised device:
  
• Allow the removal of apps from the device
  
• Allow use of iMessage
  
• Allow access to iBookstore or the purchase of books classified as "Erotica" from iBookstore
  
• Allow filtering of profanity for Siri
  
• Allow use of Game Center
  
• Allow the installation of new configuration profiles
  
• Improved reliability when activating a new iPhone or iPad with Wi-Fi + Cellular
  
• The last settings used on the Prepare pane are retained when Apple Configurator is quit and relaunched
  
• Improved ability to update or restore devices that are currently in recovery mode
  
• Members of Active Directory groups are now shown in the Assign pane
  
• Paid apps from the App Store can now be installed in the Prepare pane only when a device is being supervised
  
• Support for configuring advanced network options on Apple TV

I'm trying to connect an AppleTV and getting no where

 

The AppleTV has been updated via plugging it in to a mac mini and using itunes to update.

 

It looks like it's going fine in apple configurator then I get "device not respsonding"

So the windows software is basically dead then?

You have to plug the Apple TV into a monitor via hdmi, navigate to settings and then plug it in to Apple Configurator. You can update it with Apple Configurator too..

 

Saying this, the 802.1x profile still doesn't work for me even though it works fine on iPads!

I found a (practically useless) solution to this. It's to do with the time/date on the apple tv once it loses power.

If you keep the device powered (or even sleeping), and reconnect to the wired network to allow it to contact an external ntp server (apples i'm guessing), once its date/time is updated, wireless kicks back in.

 

Pointless as i need to move it to another room without a wired point. whats so difficult about putting in a date/time adjust option in the menu ... grrrrrrrrr

I was chatting with someone about this over the weekend and they are going to try using an Apple Airport Express as a bridge from wireless to wired for the Apple TV. It is only a temporary solution to check if it works in his setup, and if it does then he is going to stick in a few more network points to deal with it. It does seem a tad expensive if you were going to buy an Airport Express with every AppleTV, but he has a few spare to test with. In his situation (listed building) using the Airport Express is probably going to be cheaper than running points though.
