RTFM Posted October 12, 2012 Posted October 12, 2012 I dont understand how they can leave out that and still advertise to schools. some of our staff moaned about it, others worked around it and now probably wouldnt use it even if it was a feature because they've found other ways to work..... freeze screen wouldnt be the be all and end all when purchasing for me. The product has other benefits......

The product has other benefits...... Clearly as I brought it, it's not the be all and end all, the displays interactivity far outweigh this issue - but it cannot be a hard one to implement. You say your staff have found other ways to work - only way I can suggest to them is to take up another student PC or bring their laptop. Both pretty crap.
localzuk Posted October 12, 2012 Posted October 12, 2012 Okay - so in our IT room we have 2 TVs replicating the teachers machine - teacher puts up a powerpoint - then wants to actually use her PC for more then displaying the ppt during the lesson. How do your staff do this? They don't? They teach - they don't have a need to fiddle around with their PC whilst they have a class full of kids!

When i spoke to the CleverLCD product manager at Sahara about it he said the issue was with a graphics chip which doesnt support freeze function which will be fixed sometime in 2013. Take from that what you will.....

How do they access impero? how do they access other work for students to do? how do they demo one on one with students? We ask them to keep emails open during a lesson as a means of instant site wide communication... How can you expect an IT teacher to not use a PC and software to teach? I don't call that fiddling :/ I know they can not display the PowerPoint etc and then switch off the monitors - but the freeze screen is a really well used standard tool here on projectors - it is just surprising the screens don't have it.

In fairness to Sahara, the CleverLCD's arent the only product that dont offer this, as has been said, the BenQ's dont either. Not that that helps you any...... EDIT: just noticed you said you have the BenQ's haha

IT is a subject that is split across relevant subjects (eg. excel stuff is in maths and science). Access to ABTutor is up to them - some use it, some don't. One just has it displayed on the screen to allow the entire class to see what everyone is doing. One to one demo? What needs to be stuck on the screen for long enough that it has to be frozen there? Also, I believe there might be a product which allows you to do this, by putting it in the middle between the TV and the computer. AverMedia used to make them. I understand that - I havent said that is all they do - but I think if they don't want to disturb a class tools like Impero are great - and they need to be run from their PC. I think we will just need to agree to disagree - because at our place it is policy staff have their email open at all times - and one I fully support... What needs to be stuck on the screen for long enough that it has to be frozen there? Learning objectives/instructions are the first thing that pop into my head...

Using the supplied pen helps a little. Gossy Posted November 29, 2012 Posted November 29, 2012 We get around this problem by giving all teacher computers dual monitors, and then the second monitor is mirrored to the TV. After getting used to it, I've had very positive feedback. We've got a load of Phillips 65" TVs but are looking at BenQs due to the Smart Notebook licenses being bundled. For those that have used the BenQs - how do they fare? From what I have seen in demos they seem virtually identical to the Phillips.

We've not had any accuracy complaints here with the 4 we have. However, give it 3 years, and those will be a lot lower price.
