We get around this problem by giving all teacher computers dual monitors, and then the second monitor is mirrored to the TV. After getting used to it, I've had very positive feedback. We've got a load of Phillips 65" TVs but are looking at BenQs due to the Smart Notebook licenses being bundled. For those that have used the BenQs - how do they fare? From what I have seen in demos they seem virtually identical to the Phillips.

Yes, we have this too. You can get around it by denying permission to the desktop.ini folder in each of them for your domain admins group. I've been meaning to throw together a quick PS script to do this, but have yet to do so!

Indeed - certainly not appropriate for younger age groups who you would reasonably expect some parents will have (rightly!) set age appropriate restrictions on their mobiles. I would be interested to know how many in our 16-18 age range have parents still able to exert such control over their internet access - I suspect very few. Then again I could be surprised!

A timely discussion: I was just about to start a similar thread on this to see if there was anyone granting staff or students unfiltered access. When half the students have smart phones in their pockets with unfiltered internet access, there could be an argument to say all the filters are doing is slowing down access for everyone and being an irritant when it is blocking things needlessly. I'm in a sixth form college - I wouldn't feel quite the same I imagine at the thought of giving Year 5s unfiltered access. In an age of BYOD with their own data links the filtering feels a bit moot.

I've recently pitched the use of Sharepoint as the foundation for a project to redevelop our intranet / in-house VLE / other custom web systems and develop new systems, automate business processes etc. and we are planning on kicking this off come September. Our principal is keen to find out what other sixth form colleges / large schools have gone down this route. Are you using Sharepoint at your institution? If so, would you mind sharing: 1) What you're using it for, and how long for. 2) How you support it / who does the development work (dedicated staff recruited for the role, retrained existing staff, consultants, a blend of all of the above?) 3) Any feedback as to how you've found the experience. 4) Future plans you have to develop the use further. Sorry Nick - I found this morning it looks like when I did a fresh install to upgrade, I forgot to put the 6.5 patch on, so I'll retest this and the chrome/safari/opera problem. Is there any simple way to check the installed version?

Since upgrading last week I've started getting lots of users be denied access, with the error: Server Error in '/extranet' Application. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Access is denied. I've tried removing all the file shares from the web.config to rule out that it's an issue with any of the shares it connects to.
