Windows 7 and USB problems

We're experiencing some problems since our migration to Windows 7 with USB keyboards and mice either not being detected, or taking up to 20 minutes to detect them. has anyone else experienced the problem, and if so what causes it?

Does the keyboard work instantly if you boot to the BIOS? If it does I would start by looking at the latest Windows 7 chipset drivers for the PC's in question even if you think they are already installed.

Yes it works in the bios. We've also re-installed the latest drivers, to no avail

You will probably find Windows 7 is searching for drivers from Windows Update, there is an icon which appears when you insert the device in the notification panel which if clicked tells you what it is doing.

 

You could try a combination of the following, the suggested was disabled for both but for me that didn't work.

 

'Turn off Windows Update device driver search prompt' Disabled

'Turn off Windows Update device driver searching' Enabled

 

And then add the Device GUID to the 'Allow non-administrators to install drivers for these device setup classes

Agree with this.

Some of these suggestions are already enabled here but I will be checking for the last option which may be helpful to us.
