Raspberry Pi connecting to Wireless

Hi,

 

One of our teachers is purchasing a load of Raspberry Pi's for his class. We currently have a guest wireless SSID set up which allows users to sign in via a web page using their AD credentials and then get out onto the internet.

 

As the Rasperry Pi's do not come with wireless capabilities, is there any device anyone can recommend that has network ports on it like a switch or router for the raspberry Pi's to plug into, which can then connect to our guest wifi?

 

He'd rather not buy wireless devices for each of them individually.

Not a recommendation for a particular wireless device I'm afraid but I highly recommend you or the teacher in question gets a copy of the official R-Pi user guide; it contains a section on setting up wireless as well as known chipsets that will work with the R-Pi

A wireless router that can run as a wireless client with inbuilt switch is what you're looking for you can also add additional switches if you need more ports.

 

At home I run a buffalo airstation with dd-wrt on it to do this for my garden office.

+1 for @Jawloms suggestion above. I've got the same model and hooks up to our school wifi just fine (once you get the config right!!)

I have the Edup version of this, my head of ICT has the Edimax one and they are very very similar.

 

We had a little impromptu raspberry jam for open evening and between 5 members of staff we had 8 connected to one unifi and everything was hunky dory. It's not 15, but it all worked really very well!
