johnkay21 Posted June 20, 2007 Posted June 20, 2007 I have now put a different Hard Drive in the server and the Hard Drive is detected but whenb I try formating the hard drive it says: Setup was unable to format the partion. The disk may be damaged......etc etc make sure your SCSI devices are properly terminated etc etc You must select a differewnt partition for Windows..... WHAT SHALL I DO???? (Tried with 2 different hard disks)

plexer Posted June 20, 2007 Posted June 20, 2007 If you had one that wouldn't boot and now cannot format others what about the disk controller? Are these scsi disks or ata? Whichever they are is the controller sepearate or built into the mother board? Ben

badboyvtec Posted June 20, 2007 Posted June 20, 2007 I don't know that but I would personally try buying an add on sata card (if its those type of hdd's) and installing that as a first port of call, so you can limit it down to saying either its the hard drives or the motherboard. As a coincidence it may well be the hard drives.

It sounds as if there is a problem with the built in drive controller. If it's just the data you want from them bung them in another machine and pull it off that way. Ben

petectid Posted June 20, 2007 Posted June 20, 2007 When you run setup it asks for third party disk or array controllers these need to be loaded for the setup programme. Otherwise setup cannot access the disk. Visit Fujitsus site and find out if you need any third party disk controllers. You will probably need a USB floppy drive if there is not a floppy disk drive in the server? To load them for setup, setup only looks to drive A: for these drivers.
johnkay21 Posted June 20, 2007 Author Posted June 20, 2007 I replaced the hard drive with a WIN XP hard drive then had to add the raid driver and format the Drive (it formated once I put a Hard Drive with XP currently on) Don't ask me WHY?

SCSI controller looking for drives which arnt properly terminated... IDE controller trying to pick up drives when two drives on same ribbon are both set to master or slave or CS. ??? could be one of the above.... Im guessing you use IDE disk's?
johnkay21 Posted June 20, 2007 Author Posted June 20, 2007 I think it is something to do with the SCSI Controller looking for a drive that isnt there. The issue now is the best way to try and recover data from the old hard drive???? It has not been detected when I plug it into the server?
greenfieldsupport Posted June 20, 2007 Posted June 20, 2007 Was the drive part of a RAID configuration? or was it a single drive on its own?? Im pretty sure knoppix supports SCSI so you could boot from CD with that,.. and copy the data from the scsi drive to your newly found "xp" drive.
plexer Posted June 20, 2007 Posted June 20, 2007 According to the drive you said it was and the server it appears to be SATA not SCSI. Are they connected to the motherboards ports or to another card plugged in? If it's a card give us the model of that. Ben
