Hi all, i keep getting asked if students can get office cheaper than full retail and since the closer of Microsofts deal for students this year the price of office for students has jumped from £30 to £80-£100.

Is any one aware of a way to allow students to get Office at a reduced rate, i have been looking into adding office licenses onto out EES agreement, but cant work out the management of it, like how do i stop the install disks and key being passed on.

We give out install disks but they have to go to Microsoft Home use program webpage, enter the program code they gave us and purchace a licence for £8.95. Thy can only get one too.

I thought that was just for staff? As we are running that but my belief was its exclusively just for staff.

Yup - HUP is tied to your FTE (staff) users count, and only those users are supposed to buy Office through HUP with your code. If you direct your students to it, you'll get a nasty shock when you run out of licenses within a week!

I would go and have a chat with one of the EdLARs (an number of the around but I tend to deal with Pheonix now as they used to look after the LA Select agreement for us and are presently part of a project involving MS, European Electronique and a Social Enterprise we are working with ... other EdLARs are available) as they will be able to run you through the variety of options.
