Little-Miss Posted September 13, 2012 Posted September 13, 2012 Erro, I am looking to purchase a set of 6 walkie talkies. For use around the school site. Dont have a budget in mind as i dont know how much they are to start with! Any recommendations would be great. Thanks
north-ict Posted September 13, 2012 Posted September 13, 2012 You was suppose to say over at the end of it! Big or small school site? I know Argos do some sets. Bundles of 2 and 4's I think OVER
Little-Miss Posted September 13, 2012 Author Posted September 13, 2012 Lol!! What's that from?! We're only a small site..landlocked lol .....OVER
Steve21 Posted September 13, 2012 Posted September 13, 2012 We use Motorola CP040 (Motorola CP040 Hand held radio) but they're not exactly cheap ones, and it's a fairly big site here, and obviously need licensing etc for frequencies etc Steve
caffrey Posted September 13, 2012 Posted September 13, 2012 We use ICOM F4002 site wide here, well I would if I could be bothered to take it out the box ;p
Little-Miss Posted September 13, 2012 Author Posted September 13, 2012 Hmm, dont think we need to go as far as the license to be honest. But it was only £50 wasnt it?

Honestly couldn't say off hand, but nice to have proper radios that will work everywhere We got two sites that are at end of roads, and radios etc work between them etc. Steve
TechMonkey Posted September 13, 2012 Posted September 13, 2012 Go for big ones (iCom types), not necessarily ones needing a license but proper radios. We got a job lot of the small plasticy ones for lunch duties and various uses and they have been nothing but trouble.
localzuk Posted September 13, 2012 Posted September 13, 2012 Buy cheap, buy twice in my experience. We have Entel licensed ones here, and they work flawlessly. We used to use Motorola license free ones and they were no end of trouble due to signal range being so poor. Even if you're in a small-ish area, the thickness of walls etc... will play on what you get. My suggestion would be to have a chat with Apex Radio and see if they'll loan you a couple for a trial - to see what's what and see if you need anything more than the standard unlicensed ones.
laserblazer Posted September 13, 2012 Posted September 13, 2012 Give Nimans a call on 0844 848 0905 tell them you are an LEA school and they should do a good deal. They do ICOM, Motorola and Kenwood.

Mine's a blessing when I want to find someone but a curse when someone wants to find me and I don't want to be found. Bear that in mind. Come Back.
