Disable SUS

We're running SUS (yes, I know, still not upgraded) I was wondering is there any way to disable it from installing any updates on all PC's for a temporary time so that I can do some testing on non patched machines?

 

I've tried looking for options but to no avail.

Which service am I supposed to disable? The only one I have found is "Software Update Services Synchronisation Service" I thought that only handles the sychronising between your server and Windows Update. I want to stop it doing anything altogether.

 

It's installed on our curriculum server, but it's not running IIS so that is ok.

You could disable the Automatic Updates service on the clients via a Group Policy. That should kill it shouldn't it?

It depends on how the client computers are configured. If you have Active Directory then just change the Windows Update policy. If you went to each computer and configured it, then you will probably need to go to each computer and undo the change you made. If I can be of anyhelp please let me know As mentioned above you could just turn the server off. LOL Then you might have grumpy users.

Lots of ideas already but if they don't work then are you using IIS on the server for anything else? if not, temporarily stop IIS - the updates service on the client attempts to contact the updates server using http; if it can't get a response it won't install updates!
