pandster Posted September 11, 2012 Posted September 11, 2012 Hi, We have a suite of MFPs for printing and scanning. Up until recently, our LEA provided us with a free SMTP service for scanning to email. That's now been withdrawn because of spamming issues. Unfortunately, if we can't use Office365 as an SMTP alternative, because it requires TLS authentication, which is not supported on HP printers. I've gone through setting up an outward facing server as an SMTP relay, which satisifes the printers when testing the validity of the listed SMTP server, but the mail doesn't get through to the recipient. Help!
andyrite Posted September 11, 2012 Posted September 11, 2012 Have you followed How to configure an SMTP relay for Office 365 It's really picky about the sender address existing and the account must have send as rights as well. There is another non microsoft way. You can add your mx record as a smtp for the MFP. IT will accept mail on port 25 with no TLS. You need to create a allow rule in Forefront Online Protection for Exchange for your ip range. It will only send to user in your domain.
pandster Posted September 11, 2012 Author Posted September 11, 2012 Have followed those instructions as shown. How do I do the MX records fix? On our website control panel? The SMTP Logs on the server seem to show some communication with our office 365 server, but no mail comes through.
andyrite Posted September 11, 2012 Posted September 11, 2012 Under domains in the Office 365 you will have View dns settings. It should list your mx as something like domainname.sch.uk.mail.eo.outlook.com. You can use this as an smtp server setting on your mfd. You will need to add a allow rule for your ip range in Forefront Online Protection for Exchange to get this to work.
pandster Posted September 11, 2012 Author Posted September 11, 2012 OK, have used the mx record as smtp server, and the printer likes it. Where's the forefront Online Protection for Exchange config? Thanks for your help.
pandster Posted September 11, 2012 Author Posted September 11, 2012 No worries, have found the FOPE admin centre. Getting a password now.
pandster Posted September 11, 2012 Author Posted September 11, 2012 Awesome. Had no idea that FOPE existed. Nifty for reports! Do I stipulate the internal network address of the printer, or the otward facing IP of our organisation? Could I use an email address instead? Thanks for your help
pandster Posted September 11, 2012 Author Posted September 11, 2012 OK. Gets weird now. We've also got a machine running webjet admin to collect info on printer supplies and forwards them onto our consumable supplier. This fell over when our old SMTP server got canned too. Have set it up to point to our SMTP relay (forwarding on to Office 365 Mail server) and this works absolutely fine (using port 25). Still no joy using our relay for scanning to email.
andyrite Posted September 12, 2012 Posted September 12, 2012 It's the forward facing IP you need to add.
kellow87 Posted September 16, 2013 Posted September 16, 2013 Have you checked if the mail is caught in any of the folders on the SMTP relay server? C:\inetpub\mailroot\Queue. Mine was initially getting stuck in Queue as I had configured the SMTP settings incorrectly not following the POP/IMAP settings correctly. Once I had they were then getting stuck in the Badmail folder. To resolve the issue you need to add the SMTP relay account as an alias on whoever is using the Scan To Mail function. This is how I solved it. Cheers
