north-ict Posted September 6, 2012 Posted September 6, 2012 So I don't know if you peeps were aware but there is a game coming out called XCOM Enemy Unknown which is something that they have rebooted from the classic game which i loved back in the 90's playing even if i wasn't that great at it. Just thought I would give you peeps a heads up Its coming out on October 12th. There is a Collectors edition (Artbook, sew on patch and some other stuff) aswell as a standard edition that comes with a preorder bonus. As far as I am aware looks like Game will be selling the special edition as an exclusive. I will be ordering the special edition i am so excited!!! Just type in xcom in google and it will come up with the website, its an age restricted title so did not want to put a link up incase your at work etc but its the first hit.
VeryPC Posted September 6, 2012 Posted September 6, 2012 I used to love Xcom - That game rocked - Did did play terror from the deep- the underwater one? I thought the third - the realtime xcom set in a city - apocalpyse ? I think it was called. Andy

Andy Nah the only one I played was the original but dude seriously check out the trailer for the new one looks insane!!!
VeryPC Posted September 6, 2012 Posted September 6, 2012 Just checked it out - looks awesome. The gameplay on trailer 4 looks great as well - turn based with lots of cool camera angles . Fingers crossed it will live up to the original! So many developers have tried to remake and released bad glitchy titles.

VeryPC Posted September 6, 2012 Posted September 6, 2012 urrr .. Its a business development activity Andy
mthomas08 Posted September 6, 2012 Posted September 6, 2012 There is another version, Xenonauts – Strategic Planetary Defence Simulator | Xenonauts – an indie spiritual successor to X-Com! But I think this one is pretty much the same but slightly improved graphics and additions. With the one your talking about though, 1 base only.. but does look really impressive, I will be getting it just not so sure about Xenonauts one - much more original though.

I remember watching a youtube commentary ages ago with the developer of xenonauts and got me excited because it was based off of X-COM, then some time later X-COM the FPS was being advertised and i was like uh.... (why would you do this to something i love!!!!) but afterwards they said there was 2 versions being created the latter being enemy unknown . Which version you looking to get? Game has the standard PC version at 32.99 and the special at 39.99. Or are you going to get it for console? I will get it for PC
mthomas08 Posted September 6, 2012 Posted September 6, 2012 PC here, I find it much easier to play on a PC and switch to my other stuff without problem. Usually Window mode too Just the normal version for me, probably wont get the Xenonauts one just yet and will see how this total full on remake is first.
sonofsanta Posted September 6, 2012 Posted September 6, 2012 A great many interviews, articles and in-depth previews on the new X-COM at RPS: X-COM | Rock, Paper, Shotgun: a glorified blog
samba_man Posted September 6, 2012 Posted September 6, 2012 Fantastic! I've been a big fan of UFO: Enemy Unknown (as it was known on the Amiga) for years!
north-ict Posted September 10, 2012 Author Posted September 10, 2012 Ordered my special edition version from game yesterday! Onward October 12th!!!
VeryPC_Tom_M Posted September 12, 2012 Posted September 12, 2012 I've had my Xbox copy of the new Xcom ordered for a while now and have been spreading the word around my friends.. if only so that I can try to kill them in multiplayer with Chysalids!. Steam does a pretty good deal if you want to pick up the older games. I think it's £8.99 for Ufo: Enemy Unknown, Terror from the Deep, Apocalypse, Interceptor and Enforcer. Ufo and TFTD both run via DosBox, which is installed and configured. If you do look at running the old version of Ufo, I'd suggest looking at XcomUtil as well, which includes a fix for the Difficulty bug (i.e. when you load a saved game, the difficulty is set back to the lowest level)!
JJonas Posted September 13, 2012 Posted September 13, 2012 OXM feature Xbox 360 Feature: XCOM: Enemy Unknown video: watch the OXM Squad battle for humanity - Xbox 360 - The Official Magazine
mthomas08 Posted September 13, 2012 Posted September 13, 2012 Just watched those videos on my 15 mins of lunch Some pretty good touches they have done on the game, really will have to get it. Can really tell the difference between this version and Xenonauts. They seem to have added many different touches compared keeping it original like xeno. Still I might have to get both when i can.
north-ict Posted September 13, 2012 Author Posted September 13, 2012 I will probably get xenonauts as well at some point,
VeryPC_Tom_M Posted September 13, 2012 Posted September 13, 2012 There are a bunch more videos in the News section here: XCOM: Enemy Unknown Achievements Some of them are even from the firaxis tv channel! I'd recommend this one: Huge XCOM: Enemy Unknown Gameplay Video which is the Lead Designer and Lead Programmer walking through 2 full missions!
sonofsanta Posted September 25, 2012 Posted September 25, 2012 Demo is up on Steam... Pre-purchase XCOM: Enemy Unknown on Steam
north-ict Posted October 10, 2012 Author Posted October 10, 2012 Had an email from Game telling me about my preorder should be shipping soon hope I get it in time!
sonofsanta Posted October 10, 2012 Posted October 10, 2012 Wish I had money for this every review I've read has been delighted with it, and the demo isn't long enough to warrant replaying... stupid money and stupid expensive houses and pets and cars and everything that isn't games

VeryPC_Tom_M Posted October 10, 2012 Posted October 10, 2012 I wouldn't hold your breath >.< I had Borderlands 2 preordered, and had the shipping email on the 18th of September. It finally arrived on the 25th of September, so I've swapped my preorders to Amazon, who can assure me that it'll be with me on Release Day!

Yeah I have heard things about GAME and there delivery of preorders but they are the only UK stockists for the special edition so it is sucky, guess I will have to grin and bear it. @sonofsanta im sure it will come down in price so don't fret!
north-ict Posted October 10, 2012 Author Posted October 10, 2012 Ha got an email it just got shipped!!!!!!!!!
simpsonj Posted October 10, 2012 Posted October 10, 2012 Already preloaded on Steam As a bonus for preordering, Steam also gave me Civ5, which has kept me nicely occupied the past week or so...
