synaesthesia Posted September 2, 2012 Posted September 2, 2012 Is being released on 14th September. At last! Community Update - Black Mesa: Community Forums Soundtrack is downloadable from that site. Rather slow though, there's a lot of load on their servers for some reason!
ChrisH Posted September 2, 2012 Posted September 2, 2012 I have been waiting for this and natural selection 2 and a new Sven coop. At least one has finally materialised.
Rawns Posted September 3, 2012 Posted September 3, 2012 Loads of chaos on Facebook of followers of Black Mesa this morning. A post popped up saying "Released Today ~ ...in the United States" with people not realising that it was actually an event set up for the 14th. People thought it 'was' released. WOuld be awesome iuf Valve hosted it on their content servers for them to allow easy download and install.
Rawns Posted September 4, 2012 Posted September 4, 2012 News so big that the BBC are in on it too... BBC News - Fans resurrect Half-Life video game
Rawns Posted September 12, 2012 Posted September 12, 2012 This has hit 100% of votes in Steam Greenlight meaning Valve are in discussions with the devs to get it in Steam! Should make downloading and installing it a breeze!!!
synaesthesia Posted September 14, 2012 Author Posted September 14, 2012 So, it's out! Tried grabbing it at work but alas, no .torrents allowed and main site overloaded. For those trying : https://www.dropbox.com/s/0rxxzqws08rplcz/BlackMesa.torrent Black Mesa Source 1.0 - Windows free game - File Downloads, Patches, Mods and Demos for PC Games at Shacknews.com Latter is probably best bet atm.
rich_tech Posted September 15, 2012 Posted September 15, 2012 I downloaded it via the torrent available on the site and it came in within about 4 hours last night, after I got in from pub it was done, been playing it this morning and its good fun so far.
Rawns Posted September 16, 2012 Posted September 16, 2012 After the 8 year wait, I'm chuffed to be playing it and I can see why it took them so long considering it was made in their free time. It's so unbelievably polished it's unreal! Highlights for me include: - The chuckle brothers mugs - hookng up a stranded scientist with loo roll! So many more things I can't list. I've got to get back in game, they're waiting for me... In the test chamber.
petay87 Posted September 17, 2012 Posted September 17, 2012 Am I remembering the game wrong or do you get the crowbar later in Black Mesa?
Rawns Posted September 17, 2012 Posted September 17, 2012 Am I remembering the game wrong or do you get the crowbar later in Black Mesa? Slightly later. And unless I missed it, the shotgun comes MUCH later!
petay87 Posted September 17, 2012 Posted September 17, 2012 The shotgun used to be acquired in a caged storage room was it not?
Rawns Posted September 17, 2012 Posted September 17, 2012 It did, seems the security only has a pistol and ammo to share with you.
petay87 Posted September 17, 2012 Posted September 17, 2012 oh well, at least the differences shows you the game is re-written from the ground up rather than just "tweeking" it to look good!
Rawns Posted September 17, 2012 Posted September 17, 2012 oh well, at least the differences shows you the game is re-written from the ground up rather than just "tweeking" it to look good! Like Valve tried to do with Half Life Source. That was awful!!!
petay87 Posted September 17, 2012 Posted September 17, 2012 Like Valve tried to do with Half Life Source. That was awful!!! Oh yes.....that! It didn't even look good!
Rawns Posted September 17, 2012 Posted September 17, 2012 (edited) It's a no-brainer... Edited September 17, 2012 by Rawns
petay87 Posted September 17, 2012 Posted September 17, 2012 LOL! What did they do in the original source conversion!?
Rawns Posted September 17, 2012 Posted September 17, 2012 (edited) LOL! What did they do in the original source conversion!? The only thing I remember about it was the water effects and semi-awful shadows. The rest was just like playing the original Half-Life. Black Mesa Source is what they SHOULD have done. HMCTech Posted September 18, 2012 Posted September 18, 2012 Had 10 minutes last night before going out so I sat and did the train ride intro with a cup of tea, so many good memories!
Rawns Posted September 18, 2012 Posted September 18, 2012 Wonder if they are planning on redoing the add-ons as well?
itsmemario Posted September 18, 2012 Posted September 18, 2012 Wow is it there ;P Heard it was comming in september. Lets give it a look. Looked like vaborware
petay87 Posted September 18, 2012 Posted September 18, 2012 Blue Shift wasn't amazing but I hope they re-do opposing force, that was great!
Garacesh Posted September 19, 2012 Posted September 19, 2012 (edited) Sod those! I found a mod one time, of which I forget the name, that created a whole new campaign to play (that happed simultaneously with the resonance cascade) as a Vortigaunt. Fun! Edited September 19, 2012 by Garacesh
Dos_Box Posted September 19, 2012 Posted September 19, 2012 Well, it's lunch time. Time for my first play
