Vfast broadband using WiMax

Anyone had experience with this? I think it is using the WiMax femtocell system rather than the LTE, both on the new 4G speed. Apparently it says we can get 15mb but at £25pm and £99 installation fee.

It does sound tempting as I am on ADSL at a 'speed'of 2mb.

Thoughts?

Is there a Data Cap?

 

I was part of a survey team recently looking at a rural area we could get nice 5Mb on 3G over 70% of the area where BT ADSL was only 256k. So the 3G was fantastic but you have to have a good data plan otherwise you get STUNG.

Apparrently- no data cap. It would be nice to know how it manages with games too. The femtocells work by tranferring and receiving data from repeater antennas if I am correct, could that render them 'laggy'? There again - it is 4G.

Geo-Stationary stuff has about 750ms-1S lag. So for Gaming bad, for Terminal Services Very Bad, for IPT not a chance in hell.

 

Low earth orbit is a lot faster, but the data transit costs on the low orbit stuff is vastly greater than GEO-Stationary.

I thought satellites were involved but it is fed by repeater antennas. hmm.

Had a site survey a couple of days ago, as we are rural the noise interferance from the trees is a problem. We need to get more locals on board and they will put another repeater near us to solve the problem. I seems to get great reviews from the people who use it.

I'd be really interested on hearing any feedback ref this. There seems to be a lot of wifi / wimax / 4g companies popping up offering fast connections at good prices.

I have only heard good reports about this, there again we live rurally and the alternative is grim. We can't watch iplayer or youtube in the evenings! Really annoying when you are charged the same as the towns who receive 24mbs....

WI-MAX and LTE are the technology's 4G describes the capable speed that can be obtained over the media. 4G is between 70-100Mbps but that is heavily reliant on the connection at the base station. as most base stations still use ISDN normally = about 2Mbps this is the reason why it goes slow. and yes in bamber bridge i have an ADSL connection that runs at about .5-1.5Mbps and were supposed to be on about 10Mbps i have still to ring talk talk.
