matt40k Posted May 28, 2020 Author Posted May 28, 2020 Oh nice, can they do staff as well and contacts? Only took 8 years. 4
smithson83 Posted May 29, 2020 Posted May 29, 2020 Hi guys/gals, I can't see that option. Do I have to do something to enable it, or is it part of the Spring Releaae (I haven't had that released yet, still on 7.190) Although, that said, we do use Salamander to write back to email addresses to Sims from AD, very useful for 3rd party SSO.

Yes it's in the latest release. Doesn't look like you can do Staff.
SL_Thing Posted June 25, 2020 Posted June 25, 2020 has anyone recently had issues with Matts Bulk tool? It was working fine the other week, but now if I try and point it to a csv it just sits there saying 'Loading File' with nothing in the logs to indicate any issues. Also, excel files just come up with the message, file is blank. I know there was going to come a day when it stopped working, but it was really useful. I know i can use the SIMS method now for pushing in email addresses (although it looks a bit weird with no way to ensure a primary key) but i also need to fill a UDF with the users AD username. Hopefully someone can point me in the right direct to get SIms bulk Update to get pasting the 'Loading File' stage. Cheers
Kaz77 Posted September 15, 2020 Posted September 15, 2020 Just found this tool and managed to import my usernames from AD. I used csv files as my spreadsheet had multiple sheets in it, which the tool didn't seem to like - it said the file was blank. The SIMS method still doesn't allow import to UDFs so this is the only way that I could see to do it. Thanks @matt40k 1
synaesthesia Posted December 9, 2020 Posted December 9, 2020 Just a quick thanks for saving me having to risk messing up by delving directly into SQL for something as relatively simple as bulk-adding staff email addresses into SIMS Why on earth that isn't standard I'll never know! 1
matt40k Posted December 9, 2020 Author Posted December 9, 2020 Still surprised this is still going tbh, I remember renewing the domain for 10 years before the price increase and thinking that was optimistic at best. Sounds like it might be around longer than Capita Is there much demand for this getting updated? I'd thought everyone would be migrating away SIMS7 by now.
synaesthesia Posted December 9, 2020 Posted December 9, 2020 It's a great interim idea. I've just sworn at it admittedly because it added the emails I wanted but didnt make them main/primary despite putting that in the CSV, then doing it again to correct it just added another copy My own fault though! One of those things I believe Salamander would easily handle however until we finally get it, and until we move from SIMS which feels inevitable for some reason, little tools like this do the world of good 1
3s-gtech Posted December 9, 2020 Posted December 9, 2020 I've used it for years to add new student usernames to SIMS at the beginning of the school year. Still an essential tool for us. 1
matt40k Posted December 9, 2020 Author Posted December 9, 2020 Yer @synaesthesia I think SalamanderSoft is the way to go. Its miles better, this was always the poor mans option \ doing something truly ad-hoc.
synaesthesia Posted December 9, 2020 Posted December 9, 2020 Well by the sounds of it you've done a bloody good job filling in a few of the many gaps Capita like to leave 1
