Mobile Mac computers and effects from windows GPP.

Hi all, I have a mixed environment of Macs and windows in a golden triangle setup. All the macs that are bound to the windows domain sit in a OU that has no policies assigned to it. I have one user who all of a sudden couldn't install a printer on their Mac when at home. There husband who works in IT sent me an email saying that is was because the printers are being assigned by group policy to the windows machines and that is causing the problem. My question is has any one found that windows GPP mess up Mac computers and their ability to add printers? Thanks in advance.

Could they be confusing gpp with wgm? As I've always understood that unless you have a gpp add on like the centrify stuff group policy will have no effect on macs. Since you mentioned golden triangle I doubt you have centrify. Just my opinion.

Thanks techiewils, I didn't think the GPP would apply and they were talking a lot about group policy and Uac policies in their email so I am pretty sure they meant group policy. Thanks for the reply.

Screen grab of the add printer(s) window / dialog ? Do they have local admin rights on the account they use ?

No problem any time. Mac_shinobi beat me too it, could they have restricted their account by accident?

I expect either your Workgroup Manager preferences are set to "disable" users form accessing the Printers sys pref, or the user is not a local admin of the machine. Or, if they are a local admin, when they log in the laptop is set to remember all managed preferences, which an admin (you, or them) can disable by holding down CMD whilst logging in.

I wouldn't have thought so, ours sit in the same group as our other student windows machines (with printers assigned by GP) and it doesn't seem to have any effect.
