FN-GM Posted July 9, 2012 Posted July 9, 2012 Hi, It looks like we are getting some 3G iPads here. Does anyone know how i can filter these please? In an iPad you set the pr0x settings in the wifi settings. Can you do this for a 3G connection please? Thanks
Michael Posted July 9, 2012 Posted July 9, 2012 If you bought 3G less iPads, you wouldn't have this problem! They'd also be cheaper too. It's the same as mobile phones. There is no proxy or filtering involved, just a direct connection. I would of thought however you'd still need a 3G sim card to use it, unless the iPad comes with one?

Wifi only ones cant be used outside of school Yes we will need 3G sim cards.

Within EMBC we make use of the Capita offering on this to give 3G connectivity running through the provided netsweeper array. This is a deal via a well known mobile provider but relies on kit on the EMBC network. Other similar services are available.

It involves installing a router on your network, but everything mobile uses your AP which automatically connects to YOUR network, applying all filtering from YOUR LAN and providing VPN access without having to faff about. It's called Data VPN. I've got a data sheet somewhere if anyone wants it. James

Am i understanding it right that somehow we can get our own mobile AP to route signals through our filtering still? It's Monday morning so i could be reading this completely wrong!

And you cant force all the students to use your apn, they would just change it back! When I was at boarding school, BBC Micro/Master were king and there was no internet! James
