Hello Everyone,

We are trying to get multicasting setup so that we can quickly deploy operating system images to multiple computers. We have a flat network (no VLANs) and our switches are a mixture of Netgear GSM7224 and Netgear GS724TP. We also have two HP Procurve 2510G-24 switches that serve as the core (They connect together our three HyperV hosts and SAN). We have enabled IGMP Snooping on each switch and they seem to have built a Multicast Forwarding Database Table, with a type of "Dynamic" and description of "Network Assist".

Is this the only configuration that we need to do, or is there anything else that we could do to improve the speed of multicasting?

Would enabling Jumbo Frames on each of the switches help improve performance? Also, can I increase the size of the packet window (think thats the correct term :S) as we are just deploying over the LAN and therefore the connection is reliable.

Thanks in advance,

J.Worth.

I can't speak for the equipment you have, but with Cisco hardware you would need to enable IGMP Snooping to properly handle multicast traffic in a VLAN segment.
