Hazard Warning Notice

Just in case people haven't picked this up yet:-

 

Lancashire County Council have issued a 'Hazard Warning Notice' in relation to Height adjustable IWB's & Projectors, but then go on to include all IWB's

 

Apparently one has fallen of the wall and all schools are advised to check all IWB's and projectors for correct and secure fixing, if in doubt get the 'original' installers back!

 

The warning is issued on the portal.

Surely its common sense to keep an eye on things like this? Next they will give warnings that you need to check chairs as somebody fell off one? any maybe staircases because somebody fell down one?

You jest, but I did some work on an oil refinery and they class a stair case as the same as a ladder and it is a disciplinary offence to not maintain 3 points of contact, which involves climbing the stairs using both hand rails, you can hold one handrail if you stand still to let someone pass, but to continue moving you must hold both hand rails again.

HAHA this country is a joke - is that external staircases around tanks or does that also include internal ones? external metal staircases i can kind of understand if they are wet etc.

any staircase... even the ones in the offices.

There's a rather large detergent manufacturer who have a similar rule at their head office. You're admonished if you climb the stairs without holding onto a rail.. People from other sites just treat this as confirmation they're crazy.

 

Why do they do this? It lowers their insurance premiums. Same reason the refinery does it.

 

And that drives real H&S people into a rage, because it undermines their employee acceptance of real* H&S stuff.

 

*like not leaving ethanol lying around in unlabelled lemonade bottles, for example.
