Update RTL 8139 PXE Boot

Hi,

 

I have some machines with RTL 8139, i am having issues getting them to PXE boot. Does anyone know how i update the boot rom please?

Are they onboard net cards or PCI plug-ins? If they are add-in cards you will need the boot rom chip adding onto the card. Onboard shouldn't have any issues, we have loads of the RTL8139's

They are onboard. I cant get them to PXE boot with LTSP.

Do you get any kind of errors or messages on screen? Does it get as far as receiving an IP address? I've not used LTSP but is the tftp service up and running correctly?

PXE works fine on intel cards but not the RTL ones.

On the realtek site link from your above page link, there are downloads for BootROM Flash Utility and PXE ROM Code - can't you download them and run them from a WinPE disk or similar?

Well there is no guide on how to do it, thats why i am asking how

If they are onboard then the boot rom will be located in the BIOS in a rom hole. Have you updated to the latest BIOS? Otherwise your only option is to hack a newer oprom into the BIOS and flash it.

Daft question but have you enabled PXE booting in the BIOS?

 

Do you get any error messages?
