Network Cabling - the regs

Can anyone point me toward the regulations re network cabling please - our school has an electrical rewire over the summer and to me it seems logical to replace any of the older network cables as well which I guess were put in circa 1985 iss so I'm sure they will be the old grey not low haz ones?

I dont think there are regs as such, but as networks get faster and bigger cabling also needs to be better. In this building we found really really old Cat5. Day one we ripped out every bit of cable we found and put Cat6 in throughout.

I seriously doubt they were put in Circa 1985, perhaps 1995.

There are no regulations as such. However I know of a case where not having network cabling installed by a qualified network cable engineer resulted in building insurance being invalid. This is an extreme example though.

 

In the UK the qualifications are awarded via the QCF framework. For example here is the City and Guilds one.

There are cable installation regulations. I've used these guys before and they're very knowledgeable about these things.
