tomgrindle Posted June 17, 2012 Posted June 17, 2012 Very sad day for me today .... After a good day at a Mini show in Bristol I came home and dropped my iPad on the drive. Smart cover and Belkin Snap shield fell off in the process and the iPad landed face down on the drive with no protection . However it is still usable, but has shattered in three of the corners and a couple of hairline cracks going diagonally from one of the corners right up to the other. also a ding in the one corner of the aluminium back. will probably upload some pictures at some point. I have already sent @Millgate an email .. Rang my local Apple reseller in Cheltenham, they don't do repairs but recommended a place called ipadrepair.co.uk. Anyone dealt with these before?? I am also going to book an appointment at my local Apple store for one of their technicians to assess the damage and give me a price. Do any of you think it is worth paying a ridiculous price to Apple for repairing it? They will give me a one year warranty from the date it's repaired. I have only had it since Christmas ...
tomgrindle Posted June 17, 2012 Author Posted June 17, 2012 Also .. The LCD itself is fine, it's just the digitiser that is damaged.
garethEds Posted June 17, 2012 Posted June 17, 2012 I used a repair service in London for my iPhone 4 - never again. I will take it to Apple next time and get it replaced. Gareth
mdench Posted June 17, 2012 Posted June 17, 2012 have you asked @Millgate if i remember they have started doing repairs for ipads etc?

Garacesh Posted June 18, 2012 Posted June 18, 2012 also a ding in the one corner I laughed at this rather technical description perhaps a little more than I should have..
JJonas Posted June 18, 2012 Posted June 18, 2012 Someone plugged theses guys in another thread iPhone Repair , iPad Repair, iPod Repair in London not used them myself but the price looks OK
tomgrindle Posted June 18, 2012 Author Posted June 18, 2012 have you asked @Millgate if i remember they have started doing repairs for ipads etc? Yep, I've sent an email to @Millgate . Almost straight after I done it lol. Home insurance? £50 excess and a new iPad on its way to you? Apparently our house insurance only covers a computer that doesn't get carried i.e. Desktop. Would say Millgate but they only deal with companies? Ben The good thing about that is that Mum and Dad own and run our family coach business. I do all of the IT as well so having @Millgate as a supplier would be good anyway.
Danp Posted June 18, 2012 Posted June 18, 2012 Apparently our house insurance only covers a computer that doesn't get carried i.e. Desktop. Oh dear, sorry to hear that, I made sure mine covered everything, mostly to know my Air was covered
tomgrindle Posted June 18, 2012 Author Posted June 18, 2012 Oh dear, sorry to hear that, I made sure mine covered everything, mostly to know my Air was covered Yeah, a few people that I know have had brand new Macs etc on their insurance after they have dropped them. I was quite disappointed lol I still live with the parents so they sort the insurance . Mum was quite disappointed that it didn't cover it either. Something that maybe we will look at when we renew.
Millgate Posted June 18, 2012 Posted June 18, 2012 I'm all over it . I'll drop you an email in a sec Tom with prices etc

New Black Touch Screen Digitizer Glass for iPad 2 - 3g & Wifi ( Both) + Tools | eBay I have looked and was thinking about it, but if I end up breaking it, its broke. I've then got to fork out for a new one :/ . I would rather pay a professional to do it .. I've replaced screens in a few phones and stuff, like my HTC Wildfire and a mates Desire S ... but we will see ...
