aaargh psu voltages prob

i just got a new his x1950pro graphics card as a replacement for a died x850xt (they dont make it anymore)

 

when i put it in it complains before the post screen about the pci power cable not being plugged in. tried both my pci-e power cables and the power adapter that comes with the card to no avail.

 

i notice the card manual states a 450 watt psu with 30 amps on the 12v rail.

I have a 480w psu but to my horror according to the gumfp on the side of the psu the output is only 28a on the 12v rail. (ive discovered on a website the old x850xt uses upto 25a on the 12v hmm)

 

is this a likely explanation as to why the card seems not to work?

Get yourself a nice big meaty Coolermaster, Hiper or Corsair PSU.

looking at the

zalman-zm500-hp but do i really need 500w when im not interested in SLI/crossfire.

i know it depends on what else i've got

1gb dual channel ddr

3 harddrives

1 dvdrw

i would go for the largest psu i could find, never trust what is stated on a psu for output unless its a higher quality (more £$£$) power supply

nvm i bought the zalman one from ocuk.I'm prepared to pay more for guaranteed silent. its got a heatpipe oooh ;-)
