Bit off topic but...

Bit of an off topic thing, but I know that we have had many members who have young children.

 

My little girl , Bethany (15 months), has today had blood in her poop. I scoured a few websites, and they pretty much all came up with a variety of possible causes. Anyone encountered this before?

hi jake i don't quiet think that this is the right site for that but anyway i have an answer take Bethany to your local doctor of hospital and have her checked out by a professional

as they will know what the problem is

Yeah, she is booked into the doctors at 4pm today. I figured with so many of us on here having recently had children, maybe someone had encountered it before.

Have to say that with mine nearly 3 and 16months that we've never had this.

 

Allthough our youngest does scratch herself something chronic when being changed.

 

Hope she gets better soon.

She was ill on Monday, threw up a couple times, but she seemed much better yesterday. Then today this. Hoping its just an intestinal infection or something, have to see what the Doc says.

Is her botty sore? My niece is the same age and has this same issue and going potty was painful for her. Sort of a combination of the poop being too big and the exit too small and there were tears, there were more details but I can't remember. I don't think the docs were too concerned. I think it was related to nappy rash and her age. She is a quite a little thing, too delecate! I bet bigger babies don't have the problem. I certainly didn't.

 

Problem is kids are looked after too well now and too soft so things like this happen. It is distressing tho when they are in pain.

Thanks for the detail starscream what you have to rember is children need to eat lots of fruit and drink lots of fluid as kids grow up they drink less water and this causes constopation. (not going into details) which does cause bleading. I would see the doctor.

Thanks all for the posts, Doc said this evening that it looks like a minor "fissure" in the passage, said its nothing to be concerned about and should clear up naturally within a day or two, but to contact him again if its still present in 5 days time.

It's not unusual, especially at that age. My daughter had that once or twice wit h nothing to worry about.

Just make sure she doesnt get constipated as then it will really hurt her.

my daughter had something similar recently

 

a fit of the screaming heebie jeebies

poo too big, bum too small

the advice was to 'bicycle' her legs to work it out

and lo and behold it worked

(no constipated mathematician jokes please!)

 

turned out she was dehydrated

little sod had been tipping her juice

down back of the sofa

instead of drinking it!

 

oh and when it finally came out

tears stopped & smiles for everyone

broke my heart it did though
