Masters of Photography: W. Eugene Smith

 

A mother bathes her young daughter who had been stricken with brain damage from eating fish poisoned by mercury effluent. The photographer, Eugene Smith, had only just recovered from head injuries inflicted by at the hands of a mob of chemical company toughs in Minimata, Japan. Very moving.

Hmmm... I think you need to get to number 7 before you get to a picture that qualifies in the category "most powerful"; and that one truly fits the bill.
