I am currently re gigging our sixthform templates within SIMS and i am creating loads and loads of aspects. Is it earier to do one aspect with loads of results sets or the other way around?

If you want to do any form of progress monitoring over time, say the length of the course, or do regular reporting to parents, its much easier to use result sets rather than have hundreds of aspects.

We have dicovered this by trial and error over the last three years and are in the process of revamping our system and we are moving from a system where we had lots of aspects and almost no result sets

to one where we have many fewer aspects and lots of result sets.

We report every half term, so rather than have aspects for each reporting session, we will have one aspect and six result sets, one for each reporting session. This then makes it easier to use things like analysis grids to measure performance improvment over time, as you can do things like plot one set of results against another very easily.

ok, i understand that. The only problem i have with that is i have got staff to use tracking grids and some staff simply do not have a clue. So i have used less results to make there lives easier.

It is a tuff call, and the other problem is the column headings when they open up there marksheets, all say (--------------- ~1, ~2 etc).

You can edit the column heading in the template so that the confusing ~1 etc can be removed. Also if you use result sets that appears in the column heading and therefore makes it easier to identify.

awesome i didn't know that, so results are better than loads of aspects brillient, i can now stop creating these and go for it the other way.

Also when renaming the column heads does each one need to be unique????

for instance if i use Art collection 1 for yr12 can i use the same column heading for yr13 art?????

You can use the same heading when working at template level but you cannot when defining the aspect so be careful. The other advantage is you can create a template for Art Y12 with all the Y12 result sets then you can clone it, rename it Y13 and replace the result sets. This is very useful when you have a lot of formulae. Edited by number34
