plexer Posted May 24, 2012 Posted May 24, 2012 Nice one, my man cave in progress is a DIY built 10 x 8 shed as that's all the space I have at the moment. Ben
Flatpackhamster Posted May 24, 2012 Posted May 24, 2012 First of all, cables are an integral part of any kind of 'man' activity. Don't try to hide them.......enjoy them, decorate them, make them a feature, buy different coloured cables for each device, get electrofluorescent if you can. A multitude of cables, to the UNTRAINED eye, looks like a mess. We have trained eyes. We know they're essential, and that each cable has it's place on the Great Patch Panel of Life. Second......is the wife allowed in there, and if so, why? Third......where's the fridge/drinks cabinet/beer cupboard? When I wanted to convert a room to 'Mine', the wife gave me an ultimatum. 'Me or your work-room', she said........the rest is, as they say, history. Do you miss her?
sonofsanta Posted May 24, 2012 Author Posted May 24, 2012 the Great Patch Panel of Life. With that phrase, you've convinced me of it. Also, a profusion of cables is beautiful to me and no-one else, thus ensuring the room remains mine. Second......is the wife allowed in there, and if so, why? First reason: to watch the telly if I've kicked her out of the front room so I can play on the PS3 on the 3D TV (I really am spoilt) Second reason: that's private, you perverts Third......where's the fridge/drinks cabinet/beer cupboard? Kitchen is just off to the left of the first photo... but once everything in the house is finally organised again, the homebrew will live in there with me, bubbling away merrily. Which is 40 pints of lovely real ale on tap... might get messy. In that case you need drinking buddies over as soon as possible on a regular basis - it helps establish it as a fixture. I have a case of Bud. The only issue likely to arise from drinking buddies (and the only real failing of the room, as far as I'm concerned) is that seating could get cramped... leather armchair to fight over, computer chair, and two beanbags. Still, that's enough to seat a round of Goldeneye
ste1988 Posted May 24, 2012 Posted May 24, 2012 I have 3 more items to place in the man cave before it is complete. 1) upgrade from 32" tv to 60" LED TV 2) beer fridge 3) leather armchair Then my life shall be complete
arwen Posted May 24, 2012 Posted May 24, 2012 I look forward to the fact it seem to be a women's decision if a man-cave gets built or not... ;-) My future house might need 2!
nicholab Posted May 24, 2012 Posted May 24, 2012 I am waiting for the invite as are all other midland edugeekers!
teejay Posted May 24, 2012 Posted May 24, 2012 So the Mrs gets the house, you get the garage, sounds about right...
tbutcher Posted May 24, 2012 Posted May 24, 2012 i'll have to post up pictures of the living room at mine sometime. There's 3 guys in our house, so the whole thing is basically one giant man cave. multiple leather recliners, big TV and surround sound with consoles, proper table football, darts and another sofa in the kitchen (so we can relax while i get the missus to cook the dinner of course!) and a dedicated beer fridge to go with. It just makes you think eh..... why get married?!
sonofsanta Posted May 24, 2012 Author Posted May 24, 2012 So the Mrs gets the house, you get the garage, sounds about right... More or less... her kitchen doubled in size as part of the work, and she has a shiny new electric range cooker, so she can't complain. I'm more than happy with the deal though i'll have to post up pictures of the living room at mine sometime. Do it... starting to feel altogether too spoilt here now, I need someone else to deflect the envy off me. Share your man caves!

I'm more than happy with the deal though so i'm assuming she can cook you nice food for you and the drinking buddies and deliver it to the door? (not into the cave itself mind you, thats men only). the one problem i find with the whole downstairs being a man cave is that the girlfriend has to enter it, and she beats me at some of the console games, so then i have to confiscate the controllers and send her to do some washing up or something...
SYNACK Posted May 24, 2012 Posted May 24, 2012 There is a way to make the cables tidy and visible at the same time. Get a sheet of tinted table glass cut by a glazier and have four hole drilled near each corner. Get come screws and washers/spacers so that you can screw it to the wall but with just enough space behind for the width of a cable. This way all the cables are trapped behind the glass, one layer thick in parrallel up the wall allowing you to marvel at their glory and just yank out the screws/other easier release fixing method when you need to change something. You could also bottom light the glass with LEDs to make the whole thing glow if you wanted. It would probably look impresive if done even half right 1
gpe5732 Posted May 24, 2012 Posted May 24, 2012 Ah, I'm a bachelor, so my entire place is a man cave. Good times.

Hmm. Hmm indeed.
