FN-GM Posted May 22, 2012 Posted May 22, 2012 So when a teacher shouts at a kid and tells them to stand in the area of the room where 2 walls meet we know why
Gatt Posted May 22, 2012 Posted May 22, 2012 So when a teacher shouts at a kid and tells them to stand in the area of the room where 2 walls meet we know why They're going to get some yoghurt? ok.. that doesn't sound so good
sted Posted May 23, 2012 Posted May 23, 2012 So when a teacher shouts at a kid and tells them to stand in the area of the room where 2 walls meet we know why isnt walls a trademark of walls (as in sausages?)
Danp Posted May 23, 2012 Posted May 23, 2012 isnt walls a trademark of walls (as in sausages?) What about bangers?
SteveBentley Posted May 23, 2012 Posted May 23, 2012 Windows is a trademark of Microsoft. Hasn't stopped double glazing firms. It just stops somebody else launching a similar product with the same name, rather than being a general claim on that word in every context.
Gatt Posted May 23, 2012 Posted May 23, 2012 IIRC You cannot copyright an everyday word Eg Apple can only copyright the design of the word Apple - not the word apple itself I think "Microsoft" and "Microsoft Windows" and "Windows xx" are trademarked - but not Windows on its own... It's also why Intel changed their processors from 486 to Pentium - they couldn't trademark or copyright a number
Mako Posted May 23, 2012 Posted May 23, 2012 (edited) This isn't good news. I'm going to have to Muller this one over. Edited May 23, 2012 by Mako

Boeing do it for "737" "747" etc, and Porsche have done it for "911". This is also the reason that Peugeot had to call their car "1007" the "one thousand and seven" as opposed to the "one double-O seven" in deference to a certain Mr Bond!
Gatt Posted May 23, 2012 Posted May 23, 2012 After a bit of research it looks like there is a clause for trademarks like these Arbitrary Trademark - Strong. An arbitrary trademark is a word that exists but has no meaning when used on the product itself. "Apple," when used on computers is a strong trademark because it doesn't describe a quality or characteristic of the computer.

aerospacemango Posted May 23, 2012 Posted May 23, 2012 But the whole point is that they cannot advertise it as a "one double-o seven" as that MAY confuse the average person and they may think it is endorsed by the aforementioned fictional killer! And, yes, I know I should have put "spoiler alert" at the top, for those that think James Bond is real!!!
Gatt Posted May 23, 2012 Posted May 23, 2012 for those that think James Bond is real!!! You mean he's NOT!?! Gutted
aerospacemango Posted May 23, 2012 Posted May 23, 2012 You mean he's NOT!?! Gutted Sorry Gatt.... I'm messing with your head! Of course he's REAL!
Mako Posted May 23, 2012 Posted May 23, 2012 for those that think James Bond is real!!! I hear that James Bond speaks very highly of you, you know. I'm sure he'd have something to say about your allegations of his non-existence. James Bond - Canada | LinkedIn
Gatt Posted May 23, 2012 Posted May 23, 2012 He has no sense of humour - I would have had to put MI6 as a previous employer for a laugh
tekins Posted May 23, 2012 Posted May 23, 2012 You mean he's NOT!?! Gutted Of course He's real, he has had a bit of surgery done every now and again, granted!
