Weird printing problem

Hi all,

 

We've got a Windows Server 2003 acting as a print server. One of the printers on our network is a Konica Miolta 2430DL. We have the same problem on XP and W7 workstations.

 

If you send a print job to the printer, it apparently has printed, even Event Viewer on the server says it printed! Nothing comes out of the printer though. We use PaperCut. PaperCut is aware of the print queue but reports no print job has been through it. However if you send a test page to the printer, PaperCut picks that up and it prints.

 

The same workstations are perfectly able to print to other printers and the server serves around 20 other printers which all work fine.

 

Anyone got any thoughts please?

Long shot but just wondering if it is related to the snmp tick box, basically disabling SNMP on the print que --> The print queue status is displayed as "Offline" on a Windows Server 2003-based print server if SNMP is enabled and if the printer devices do not respond to SNMP commands

ive had similar with a dell printer disabling advanced printing features under advanced fixed it

I found turning off watermarking helped when I had a similar problem.

@mac_shinobi - Thanks, I had a look but it wasn't that.

@sted - Tried your suggestion but it made no difference.

@clareq - We aren't using watermarking, but I checked anyway.

 

 

I have now connected a laptop which wasn't able to print (except test pages) directly to the printer via IP address rather than through the print server and it'll print like that! Still not sure if that means a problem with the spooler on the print server or with PaperCut though.......

Does it make any difference if you add the printer using an LPR port instead of raw port and using the relevant print que name ( generally either : LPR ( but lower case ), direct or print ) think it varies from manufacturer to manufacturer etc

You can exclude a printer from Papercut - you need to add the printer name to a properties file - the help file has clear instructions.

Sort of. We've had an entire new network/servers/suites put in, not because of this one problem but it certainly resolved it!
