Anybody seen/used/tried either of the new BenQ lamp less projectors?

Some really interesting features, 20,000hr lamp (Longer than the Casio LED ones)

Turns on & full brightness in 10seconds.

80K Contrast ratio.

Also, I'm speaking to Benq to find out how the iPad/iPhone mirroring works. Might save me an Apple TV and an HDMI port...

I got excited then for approx 10 seconds and then I read the second post - Ouch. I guess if you factor in not buying lamps for 20,000 hours usage...

 

Assuming £200 for a lamp and 2000 hours from that lamp then a traditional projector over the same number of hours would cost you (assuming £500 for the projector) total cost £2300 so quite affordable under those terms but the killer being those additional lamps are spread out over many future financial years and of course my made up figures could be totally out of course but just as a paper exercise.....

The Casio ones are 20,000 hours as well, and about half that price... XJ-A140 - CASIO Projectors

 

EDIT: and when doing my back of the envelope maths a year or so ago, the Casio was £700 new, and an equivalent projector was £350 new, and would need 4 bulbs at £175 each, so was £1050 for 20,000 hours of life, with 5 dips in performance/brightness in that time rather than the Casio's 1.

 

Doesn't quite work out when the BenQ is £1400+ though...

I suppose the gimmick you're potentially paying for with the Benq is the iphone/ipad thing. They must be following the logic put Apple in the specs and double the price hehehehe!!!
