SQL CALs and OVS-EES

Hi Guys,

 

I've got 5 servers with SQL installed for various reasons (As part of Sophos, SIMS, DPM, SpecOps and Bsquared)

 

What do I need to licence as part of my EES agreement - the lot, including CAL's or is there a better way of doing it.

For Sophos Enterprise Console Server you could just use SQL 2008 R2 Express (free) unless you have a lot of clients that justifies the full version.

 

DPM2012 comes with SQL 2008 R2 Standard as part of the software download via OVS-EES.

 

So there's 2 SQL licences saved!

Can you not just have one SQL server with a DB for each app, this is what we did at a dev place I worked at. Central DB server which made it easier to scale and backup. No reason you need to have the SQL server on the station itself its just another thing to take into account when rebooting things.

I've just checked the Sophos Install - It is using the Express version, so I've asked for too many.

 

I didn't know that DPM came with it as part of the package (apart from having to install it before DPM)

Alas, the local authority look after SIMS, and installed it themselves, they also update it when they want to!

 

I've tried putting BSQuared onto a remote server, but it wouldn't have it and that only leaves SpecOps on it's own. I could of course move Spec Ops to the BSquared Server, another licence saved.

 

What about the CALs guys, they aren't part of the Core Desktop Pack, so do I need to licence every machine, every user or just the Staff Count?
