Capita are trying to sell this to us as part of our new Academy build, they're won the ICT provision contract, but it appears to be in a nebulous state at present particularly in regards to SIMS integration, such as they're recommending that we continue with SIMS Learning Gateway for present.

Does anybody have any direct experience of using this platform and what would they say where the advantages/disadvantages?

I haven't had much to do with OpenHive but iI do know that capita will support other learning platforms at the request of the school like Moodle.

We are with OpenHive. It is based on sharepoint. As with every share point based solution it gives you the following:

1. Document storage.

2. Announcement

3. Diary

User Account creation

It is integrated to Sims through GroupCall Xporter.

Homework module is over complicated and does very little. It is called OpenHive Learning. Not very useful at all.

Online Reporting: The module name for Online Reporting is OpenHive Insight. We paid for this module and it never worked and still not working. They sold us this module in the hope that we will not understand and not ask questions. After more than a year we had to go for SIMS Learning Gateway for online reporting from our LEA (who purchased for the whole LEA from Capita). For SLG we pay very little.

We now have two products: OpenHive and Sims Learning Gateway (SLG). Neither of them does 100% what we need. SLG is good for online reporting. Both of them from Capita.

OpenHive History: It was originally Shireland Learning Gateway. We were with Shireland Learning Gateway. The website address changed three times while we were with Shireland Learning Gateway. As a result the format changed every time. We had to retrain teachers every time. At last it has become OPenHive as it is bought by Capita. So, we had to retrain the teachers again as the format changed.

Overall, we are not impressed with the product. Teachers are upset for changing it many times.

Cost wise OpenHive is expensive.

Cheers for the feedback so far, having looked at the website there appears to be little development going on, it's not authoritative but even their own blog has had about two updates in a year.

I also can't find any type of roadmap for the package which I'd expect for something that isn't cheap.

I think that Shireland Learning Gateway moved to Synetrix/Open Hive rather than Open Hive came from Shireland. They may well have had a lot of influence on it though.

Shirelands wend bust. (synetrix hosted them)

Openhinve got access to the client base via the synetric link.

and Capita bought Hive...

We had Shirelands, it did not work for us and then it went pop so we got ported to hive.... After 2 years it's not gone fully live and we are looking for something else as it could not meet requirements that have been promised to us.
