No Internet but there is??!!

Hi all,

 

Interesting issue here, we have a server that shows there is no internet connection when you look in the network and sharing centre place, although if you open up internet explorer you can browse the web as much as you like... any ideas?

 

The server has 2 NICs in it which are teamed correctly using LACP and the switch has also been correctly configured

Is internet access via a defined proxy server? or through the default gateway?

It's through the default gateway.... This has stumped everyone within the office

Perhaps check out a "route print" from the command line and check that there's nothing odd going on in the routing tables...

This happens on Windows 7 or 2008 R2 time to time. You could try disabling and re-enabling the NIC. This generally cures these kind of problems.

 

Other possibilities are that there could be DNS problems, or there were DNS problems which have now been resolved.

its because youre behind a poxy server if u want it to just go away

 

gpedit (local or domain your call personally this is one of the few settings i do on default doamin policy as users can be stupid)

 

computer configuration\admin templates\network\Do not show the "local access only" network icon | enabled

We see it with Windows 7 clients - mouse over the icon and it tells you you've got no Internet when you have. Just do what Sted recommends - we haven't bothered to.

This server is not behind any proxy servers though - so a proxy server can not be causing the problem...

Yep we get this now and again - I would imagine its down to whatever polling mechinisim that Windows uses to determine if there is an internet connection.

 

To be honist its not worth burning time on trying to find any kind of a fix.

Is it a newly built server? I've found with the servers we are building that happens until you run update. There seems to be a patch that sorts it but don't know which one yet. Ohh may be different as ours are R2.

We had it on all our computers and @Netman fixed it for me - the default gateway wasnt configured in DNS so the machines were sort of finding their own way out on to the net. Once the gateway was there, the 'no internet' thing went away
