Google Apps for Education vs Office365

Can anyone give me an idea of startup costs for implementing Google Apps for Education and/or Office365 within these parameters:

 

1. No staff email, only student email (no archiving needed)

2. Ability to set up student/staff accounts with SSO via Active Directory

Both are free for edu, Office 365 for edu is released this summer. Google apps has it's own SSO sync software and Office 365 uses Active Directory Federation Services.

Office365 for Education will be replacing Live@Edu towards the end of Summer 2012. If you sign up to the current Live@Edu Scheme then you will be migrated over to Office365 when this happens. Find out more information here: Live@edu

 

I personally recommend you go with Office 365, you can implement SSO using Active Directory with ease you just need to setup ADFS (Active Directory Federation Services)

But you can't get cloud storage with office 365 only crappy sharepoint which for students is not ideal.

 

We are going to run a hybrid system. Office 365 for emails and google drive for cloud storage

You can login to SkyDrive with your Office 365 Login once it is activated for Live Services. But Yes, It is not directly part of Office365 therefore SSO etc. would not be available. So you could use office 365 but management of it would be poor. I hope to maybe see them introduce this into Office365 as a General Storage Area.

We are starting to look at Office 365 - especially as the LEA Exchange server is creaking. Why not let Microsoft take the strain. I'm not bothered about online storage as the LEA have remote access for pupils through their Sharepoint portal.

 

I wonder how long we will have to wait. I've signed up to the business trial and it seems ok. The SSO is a worry as it would mean asking the LEA to do it.
