Edu-IT Posted May 3, 2012 Posted May 3, 2012 I used to get called Neo at my last school due to the fact that I could normally be seen wandering round school wearing a 3/4 length leather jacket (although *pedantic hat on* Neo never actually wears a leather jacket in the Matrix), but I quite liked this.....was much better than the few kids who called me Peter Kay Haha! We're a first name school here.
sidewinder Posted May 3, 2012 Posted May 3, 2012 I was asked by a boy yesterday "My memory stick doesnt work. Are you the janitor?" That was a definite moment
PiqueABoo Posted May 3, 2012 Posted May 3, 2012 :: Disappointed :: Was expecting a rousing call to depose Kids from their unprecedented position at the centre of the universe and get 'em all back to sweeping chimneys...
witch Posted May 3, 2012 Posted May 3, 2012 I usually get called Mrs (name) Computer Person by the children. I'm actually Ms but I'm not going to argue! The staff are mostly careful not to call me by my first name in front of the children to keep things professional. The children like to come to see me because I have various posters around my workstation - from the ubiquitous 'Don't Panic - Turn it off and on Again' to the 'GeekHorde Membership' poster
GrumbleDook Posted May 3, 2012 Posted May 3, 2012 Satan, IT Troll, Mr Aaaaaanndddeeerrssssoooon, Sir, baldy, beardy, Mr $name, and Shep.
GrumbleDook Posted May 3, 2012 Posted May 3, 2012 I was Mr Nasty in the team ... and the receding hairline giving me a widow's peak was actually not hair loss but where my horns had been surgically removed according to some sixth formers. I did get my own back by borrowing a latex mask of a demon's head and want into a sixth form tutor time ... and reminded them all that I *know* what they are searching for on the internet and they need to be careful!
Sirbendy Posted May 4, 2012 Posted May 4, 2012 I don't think I could do that... Aw, go on! Workplace humour is the key to successful coolness! Heh.
X-13 Posted May 4, 2012 Posted May 4, 2012 I used to get called Neo Yup. Me too. Also: Pimpernel, The One and Captain Jack [sparrow not Harkness.]
DSapseid Posted May 4, 2012 Posted May 4, 2012 I normally get called by my first name which i dont mind tbh. Ive had a few kids call me 'blud' (or 'blood' not sure how to spell it!) which i soon stamped out! I get the cheers mate when i fix something for them but again i dont mind that too much.
Ste_Harve Posted May 4, 2012 Posted May 4, 2012 Well I get Sir, or Mister or most of the time Techno!! Now that one goes back 5-6 years when the year 11's at the time called me it and everyone else has seemed to pick up on it. It's quite comical, and doesn't bother me so long as they're polite.
bladedanny Posted May 4, 2012 Posted May 4, 2012 It's usually 'Dan Dan the IT man' here. Or just Dan, but a cool nick name would be great.
Netwacky87 Posted May 4, 2012 Posted May 4, 2012 I was once impressed with "Its the IT Guy - Hes the cool one!"
X-13 Posted May 4, 2012 Posted May 4, 2012 (edited) It's usually 'Dan Dan the IT man' here. Or just Dan, but a cool nick name would be great. You don't need a nickname. Dan is best name. [i'm totally not biased.] Satan???? Like Mr. Satan from DragonBall Z Edited May 4, 2012 by X-13
gmj Posted May 4, 2012 Posted May 4, 2012 Had the nickname of 'Richmond' (from IT Crowd fame as if most of you will need telling that) due to a slightly goth look that I used to rock. (still do I guess sometimes).
Danp Posted May 4, 2012 Posted May 4, 2012 You don't need a nickname. Dan is best name. [i'm totally not biased.] Agree Mr Surname mostly here or IT guy
Sirbendy Posted May 4, 2012 Posted May 4, 2012 Actually, thinking on...several years ago, Year 11 boys christened me "Big Gay Karl"...sigh, boys will be boys..bless 'em, they were a year I actually was sad to see leave. I did have one misguided kiddie refer to me as "Forrest Gump" once, due to my disability...I'd taken about 6 steps when I heard a smack and found another kiddie "correcting" them, with "You DON'T EVER do that, they're cool in IT."
X-13 Posted May 4, 2012 Posted May 4, 2012 Actually, thinking on...several years ago, Year 11 boys christened me "Big Gay Karl We're all gay, and it's okay Cause gay means happy and happy means gay. We're not sad anymore, cause we're out the closet door. It's okay, hey, to be gay! I did have one misguided kiddie refer to me as "Forrest Gump" once, due to my disability...I'd taken about 6 steps when I heard a smack and found another kiddie "correcting" them, with "You DON'T EVER do that, they're cool in IT." Awesome.
